How to 'disappear' in Japan by SUNDANCE institute

(Tokyo)

Every year, tens of thousands of Japanese people...are reported missing. Some people disappear becasue of their own choice. They really want to disappear and leave everything behind.

(Sakura Sachiko Private Investigation Agency in Yokoham)

My name is Kudou Katsnori.

I'v been working in this industry for more than 25 years. At the moment I'm handling the case of an elderly couple. The husband is missing. One day, he didn't come home. He left his partner and  was gone. He vanished. This is what I'm searching for.

(Mount Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture)

Is anyone at home? I'm looking for an old man who went missing in early June. Only his bag was found in the middle of June in Numazu.

There is a law called the Act on the Protection of Personal Information. Mostly this is a problem. An adult person can be anywhere by law. So the husband can be anywhere. All over Japan or all over the world. A married couple doesn't speak about their emotions to each other. This is the downside of Japanese culture. As a result, they seperate. But what do people do who can't break up? They leave home. They cannot say the truth to each other. This can casue disappearance or, even worse, suicide.

With my work I want to help our society. This is the reason why I couldn't leave this job.
